Jody Hedlund. Web - CopyMy guest is Jody Hedlund, a dynamo of an author and a new-ish friend. I love that we share a passion for YA and the medieval time period. Here’s her official bio: Jody Hedlund is a best-selling author of over a dozen novels who loves fairy-tales and happily-ever-afters. She makes her home in Midland, MI with her husband and five children. When she’s not writing another of her page-turning stories, you can usually find her sipping coffee, eating chocolate, and reading.

A Daring SacrificeHer new book/series looks so good! Here’s the official summary: In a reverse twist on the Robin Hood story, a young medieval maiden stands up for the rights of the mistreated, stealing from the rich to give to the poor. All the while, she fights against her cruel uncle who has taken over the land that is rightfully hers. Forced to live in the woods and hide with the poor people she’s grown to love, she works to save and protect them, but she never anticipates falling in love with the wealthy knight who represents all she’s come to despise.

Doesn’t that sound good? You can purchase A DARING SACRIFICE at your local bookstore, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, CBD, or your favorite retailer.

Jody’s exclusive scavenger hunt content is this great contemplation about sacrifice…Check it out!

Is Sacrifice a Forgotten Word in Our Me-First Culture?

How many of us would put “Save a Life” on our bucket lists?

It’s sure not on mine. I have a hunch it’s not up there on most lists next to air boating across an alligator infested swamp, riding a zip line in the Amazon, or flying in a hot air balloon.

Believe it or not “Save a Life” was on the list of a 17 year old girl named Rebecca Townsend. Yes, indeed. The three things on her list were: Kiss in the rain. Fly to Spain. Save a life.

Rebecca completed the first two in high school. Little did she know that shortly after graduation she would get to check off her last item. After watching fireworks, she was crossing the street with a friend and noticed a car plowing toward them. Rebecca pushed her friend out of the way but she was struck and died.

Sacrifice.

It’s not something most of think about. In fact, I’d almost go as far to say that in our me-first culture, sacrifice is nearly a forgotten word.

  • A quick search of the internet gave me these sayings:
  • YOU don’t need anyone’s permission to do what is right for YOU.
  • I just do want I want. It’s not about what people are saying. It’s about ME.
  • Do YOUR thing and don’t care if they like it.
  • If YOU don’t go after what YOU want, YOU’LL never have it.
  • I’m going to do what I want, when I want, how I want, and you can’t do anything to stop me.

There may be some truths woven into the individual statements, but taken as a whole, they highlight the me-first philosophy that has become so prevalent in today’s world.

If a teenage girl can put “Save a Life” on her bucket list, that should serve as inspiration for the rest of us to put the concept of sacrifice back in our lives perhaps even on our bucket lists.

Often sacrifice requires that we give up our own pleasures, desires, and rights. It could even require that we lay down our lives. Like Rebecca Townsend did.

Sacrifice wouldn’t be sacrifice without some pain involved—maybe sometimes even lots of pain.

Sacrifice is a huge theme in my newest YA release A Daring Sacrifice. It’s my hope to encourage more young people (and adults!) to consider how they can learn to live more sacrificially. It’s something we all need. Myself included.

How about YOU? What’s on your bucket list? Have you ever considered adding something that might require sacrifice?
